BLASTmedia Lends a Helping Hand to Keep Indianapolis Beautiful

Tree Planting

Earlier this week, the BLASTmedia crew joined Keep Indianapolis Beautiful for a morning of tree planting along College Avenue. Since 1995, KIB has helped its neighbors plant more than 30,000 trees, and has been supported by more than 1,000 donors towards those efforts.

Organizations like KIB and the people who show up to help are part of what makes Indy special. We are proud at BLASTmedia to work and live in such an involved community, and supporting that community is an important aspect of our company culture.

Social philanthropy is a concept that most every company supports, but is often left behind due to hectic schedules and client demands. Running a business is challenging enough; can you really afford to spend corporate time on charity?

The answer is yes, people!

There’s evidence to suggest philanthropic endeavors even benefit the workplace. Just last week, the IBJ featured an article in support of workers’ volunteerism. A survey by The Chronicle of Philanthropy reported that nearly 71 percent of employees said their employer’s volunteer program made them feel “more positive” about working there. The article also pointed out that companies with an emphasis on social responsibility tended to be more successful.

Put simply, workplace volunteerism is a win-win-win; the workers, the company and the community all benefit. THAT’S THREE WINS, YOU GUYS. So get out there and help someone who needs it. Challenge your workplace to adopt a volunteer program if one isn’t in place. As my man Kid President says, we’re all on the same team, and we can all help the world be more awesome.

Indy folks, check out Help Indy Online, which is a great resource to find volunteer opportunities in your area!
