How to go viral: Five tips to increase your content’s virality

The query “how to go viral” is searched over 25,000 times a month. Some say going viral is all about luck, while others claim there’s an actual science to it. We at BLASTmedia like to think of it as more of an art—and we’re more than happy to show you the hows and whys. Here are five tips to increase the virality of your content:

Tips to make your content viral

Know your audience. The first step to creating content that is shareworthy is to know exactly with whom you are talking. Who are your fans and followers? What are they interested in? How do they communicate with each other on social media? These are the sorts of questions that you need to answer before you start creating content.  Once you know who your audience is, creating content that resonates with them can be a breeze.

Jumping on bandwagons. Content is more likely to get shared when it’s already being talked about. So align your content with an event, trend, or topic that is getting a lot of buzz. We’re not telling you to go make a Harlem Shake video, but be on the look out for news, trends, and innovations in your audience’s area of interest. For example, when the power went out during the 2013 Super Bowl, Oreo jumped in with a timely tweet that caught more virility than cute kittens dressed in Halloween outfits.

Make your blogs viral

Violate Expectations. If you want your audience to share your content with their networks, you have to stand out! Be compelling, controversial, clever, or enlightening. Be what everyone else isn’t. In the fall of 2006 Frito-Lay raised a lot of eyebrows when they announced their new Crash the Super Bowl contest for Doritos. While risky, this proved to be one of the most viral marketing campaigns ever created.

making your videos viral

Quality not quantity. In today’s digital age, people are hit with messages all day, every day. Stand out from the crowd by making your content quality. People are attracted to content that is visually appealing so spend that extra couple of minutes getting the best image or video for your post. If you’re not savvy with the tools on Photoshop, there are plenty of free apps that can turn your photos/videos into masterpieces.

Utilizing keywords and tags. Even the best content is sometimes overlooked amidst all of the information on the Internet. For this reason, it’s important to optimize your content for Internet search engines to find. Keywords and tags help your content get noticed by the people who are searching for them. If done right, your content can be showcased for the entire world to find.

Last but certainly not least, every marketing effort needs a plan behind it. How does your campaign fit into your overall goal? How will you measure your campaign’s performance? What will be the result after it all? These are the sorts of questions we at BLASTmedia explore with our clients.
