Millennials are described as anyone born between the years of 1979 and 2000. There are about 75 million of us and a large majority are trying to break into the workforce. Born in 1987, a recent graduate and fresh in the workplace I fall right in the middle of the millennials generation. I fit most of the characteristics of a millennial, and I still was hired.
Since being hired post-graduation, I’ve heard a lot of discussions on Millennials. The conversations all seem to circle back to the question:
“Should we hire Millennials fresh out of the gate?”
Simply put, the answer is, “Yes.”
Just what makes Millennials worth hiring? Here’s my take:
Millennials may be a unique generation, but it has been said that we are the next “greatest generation.” We grew up with the changing technology, but also know the importance of hard work.We understand how to do it “old school style” as well as how to properly and efficiently function with new technology. My suggestion to you: Hire a millennial. You will be pleasantly surprised.
