The Art of Staying Digitally Organized

by Jacqueline Simard
September 13th, 2010

Step aside pesky day planners. Move it or lose it disorderly desktops. BLASTmedia is here to clear your clutter.

I’ve (oh hi, I’m Jacqueline – one of BLASTmedia’s social media nerds) compiled some of my favorite applications for keeping computers and smart devices neat and tidy, thus bringing a sense of feng shui and calm in this ever-evolving technological world.

Myfav.es – The name is quite indicative of its function. Myfav.es collects all of your favorite websites into a clean display, ousting the old-school untidiness of the common bookmarks.

Free and easy to use, myfav.es compiles a slue of popular websites and gathers them into a sleek, seamless interface. Simply drag the websites you would like to have displayed as your favorites into the right-hand side panel and save.

My personal myfav.es looks a little something like this with Google Analytics, Basecamp, Mashable, Hootsuite and Facebook as my top 5. Use the scroll arrow to the right to access all of your fav.es or edit the preferences to have all of them show at once.

Say goodbye to the disheveled day planner with TeuxDeux, a simple yet uber-effective web-based task manager that keeps even the messiest of minds organized.

Simply type in the desired task into the day’s field and either cross out upon completion or move to another day. If you goal doesn’t have a specific date to be completed, put it in the handy “Someday” category.

But don’t take our word for it, watch a short “how-to” of TeuxDeux:

Read It Later is a desktop and mobile application that allows you to add articles to a list that is downloaded for your later reading pleasure. The app can be set up to grab a page’s text or the whole web content but whichever you fancy, you do not need an Internet connection to read it!

The Read it Later app ensures that your list goes everywhere you do and across a line of browsers on a multitude of computers. Not only that, but Read It Later also remembers your position in each article, so you can start reading on your computer and then pick up where you left off on your phone!

And there you have it.

So I suppose the (mildly-altered) saying is true – “We are living in a digital world and I am an digitally organized and oh-so technological savvy girl!”

Eat your heart out, Madonna.

Great post, Jacq! I also like SpeedDial - a Firefox plugin that keeps your favorite websites (with a preview) at the click of one button. All you fellow organization freaks should check it out.

Meet the team!
