Spring is in the Air, But Where's Your Head?

It’s finally here! Outside of the fall season, for me it is the best time of the year. Spring brings some of the best events – Major League Baseball‘s Spring Training leading into Opening Day, NCAA basketball’s March Madness, Spring Break and Daylight-savings time. Wait, scratch that last one. It’s the time of the year where we clean our house, our garage and our car. Spring cleaning is a tradition that allows us to freshen up our homes and get a head start on the hectic seasons of spring and summer. However, this year, I think we all need to take time to clean something most people never think to clean – especially in a time like this – our minds?

Author and publisher of “The Daily Motivator,” Ralph Marston once said, “Rest when you’re weary. Refresh and renew yourself, your body, your mind, your spirit. Then get back to work.” With all of the uncertainty of the economy and the overall health of our great Nation dominating the media and daily conversations, taking the time to relax and take a breath seems virtually impossible. However, I believe if you don’t, you won’t like the person you begin to become and neither will the people around you. Life Coach Kathy Gates, who specializes in helping people create a simpler, less stressful, more meaningful lifestyle, wrote a great article on Spring Cleaning for your life that is also worth giving a read. There are even some useful products out there that help you manage stress through technology- whether it’s reaching coherence (www.emwave.com) or getting a good night’s sleep (www.sleeptracker.com).

We all can be stressed and worried about everything that is going around us, but we must take some time to unwind, relax and discover something new about ourselves. Go for a long walk, listen to music, or go have a night with your friends. After a long day here at BLAST, we sometimes go over to Moon Dog, check out a local sporting event or our favorite karaoke spot, Free Spirit. Here is even a list of “Cheap Things to Do to Relax.” Whatever it might be for you, I recommend doing something different than what you are currently doing to clear your head of stress. As one of my favorite sayings goes, “If you always think like you’ve always thought, you’ll always get what you’ve always got.” Get excited about everything that Spring brings, but most importantly a fresh mind. What do you do to relax and unwind?
